Admission is free. However, due to there being very little funding for this event, I would advise you either to bring along your own packed lunch or to make use of the cafés on campus to purchase food and beverages on the day. There will however be complimentary still water and biscuits provided.

Registration Open

The conference will take place in the IDS Building on the campus of the University of Sussex, Brighton, BN1 9RE (see map below).

There will be two parallel sessions that will run from 9:20am - 1:00pm in Rooms 121 (1st floor) and 221 (2nd floor), respectively. The papers to be given during these sessions will be decided upon by the 4th July.

The keynote presenters are already confirmed, the first of which will commence after lunch in Room 120 at 2:00pm.

A full programme will be emailed directly to all registered attendees when available, and posted on this website in due course.

In the meantime, anyone wishing to attend the conference should register via email to Simon Mussell: s.p.mussell@sussex.ac.uk

The conference will be free-of-charge. However, places will be limited so please register beforehand to avoid disappointment. (I would also advise people to either bring along their own lunch or be prepared to purchase something from one of the caféterias on campus).

Final Call for Papers

The deadline for receiving abstracts or paper proposals has been extended until the 30th June 2009. Time allocations for presentations will be 45 minutes (25-30mins for the paper, with an additional 15-20mins for questions).

We have four keynote speakers confirmed for the conference. They are Prof. Max Paddison (University of Durham), Prof. Alexander Duettmann (Goldsmiths), Drew Milne (University of Cambridge), and Nicholas Joll (Open University).

As before, please send abstracts/proposals via email to either Simon Mussell s.p.mussell@sussex.ac.uk or Chris O'Kane co41@sussex.ac.uk

All who submit an abstract for consideration will be contacted with a decision no later than 4th July 2009.

Once finalised, the conference programme and details of the venue (with directions) will also be sent out around the same time, and posted on this website.

Call For Papers - Adorno Conference, Sussex

The Centre for Social and Political Thought (University of Sussex) is hosting a one-day conference on the 6th August 2009 to commemorate the fortieth anniversary of the death of Theodor W. Adorno.

Anyone interested in presenting at this event is invited to submit either a paper proposal or abstract (no more than 500 words) to adorno.spt@gmail.com

Please include with proposals/abstracts your full name, email address, institutional affiliation, and position within institution.

We welcome papers on any issue directly related to (or influenced by) Adorno's work - areas of interest may include aesthetics, memory, technology, ethics, politics, ideology, literature, theory/praxis, fetishism, culture and critique, as well as Adorno's legacies, influence and contemporary relevance.

The dealine for submissions is the 31st May 2009.

Decisions regarding the final programme will be made shortly after the deadline.
